After a successful weekend competing against Wayne State, Northern Michigan University swimmers Anika Wright and Kalina Ceglinski have been named GLIAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week.
Anika Wright, from Stillwater, Minnesota, received her second GLIAC weekly honor following her performances at the PEIF pool. On Friday, she participated in the 'skins meet,' swimming with a second-place 200 free relay team and taking on roles outside her usual events, including the breaststroke leg of a 200 medley relay and the 100 IM. She was eliminated in the semifinals of the skins event. On Saturday, during Northern Michigan's 239-61 win over Wayne State, Wright won all four of her events: anchoring the first-place 400 medley relay team and securing victories in the 1000 free, 500 free, and 400 IM. She led the Wildcats with 27 points that day.
Wright currently leads her team in point accumulation this season and ranks seventh among all GLIAC swimmers with a total of 666.60 points after six weeks.
"Anika had a great weekend," said head coach Heidi Voigt. "She really swam with confidence and determination, and I am super excited for her to receive this award for all of her hard work she's put in!"
Kalina Ceglinski, a junior from Elmhurst, Illinois, continued her strong start to the season by winning four diving events over the weekend. On Friday, she scored 252.68 in the 3-meter event—more than 20 points ahead of teammate Daly—and won the 1-meter board with a score of 281.70, finishing more than 24 points ahead of second place for a total of 18 points that day. On Saturday, Ceglinski added another two wins: she earned 450.00 points in the 1-meter (25+ points ahead) and scored a dominant 278.18 in the 3-meter (33+ points ahead), marking the largest margin at the meet.
Ceglinski has taken gold in every diving event through six competitions this season.
"Kalina has been diving very well in competitions, and it is super nice to see consistency and confidence in meets this early on in the season," said diving coach Christopher Kelly. "Looking forward to taking that consistency into our mid-season meet after a month of training!"
The Northern Michigan Wildcats will return to competition at the Calvin College Invite in Grand Rapids from December 4-6.
