Lane and ramp closures will affect the M-14/I-96 corridor in Wayne County starting November 2 as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) moves into the final phase of its 2025 construction schedule. The project area covers Beck Road to Newburgh Road in Livonia and Plymouth Township.
On Sunday, November 2, entrance ramps from Beck Road to eastbound M-14 and Exit 20 to Sheldon Road will close from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Tuesday, November 4, northbound and southbound I-275 ramps to eastbound I-96, along with Exit 173 to Newburgh Road on eastbound I-96, will be closed between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
From Wednesday, November 5 through Monday, November 10, crews will shift eastbound traffic onto newly rebuilt lanes with only one lane open in each direction during daytime hours; two lanes will be available overnight westbound. Most ramps will reopen except for the Sheldon Road entrance ramp.
Patching work on the westbound side is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, November 8–9 (and possibly the following weekend if weather delays occur). During this time, several ramps—including Newburgh Road’s entrance ramp to westbound M-14/I-96—will be closed or restricted.
Late Monday, November 10, both directions of M-14/I-96 between Beck Road and Newburgh Road are set to reopen with two lanes until mid-December. The Sheldon Road entrance ramp to eastbound M-14 is also scheduled to reopen at that time.
Crews will continue working on barrier walls, drainage improvements, and shoulder repairs until all three lanes in each direction are restored by mid-December. All related ramps are expected to reopen then as well.
Work resumes in February when crews begin rebuilding westbound lanes and making upgrades at the I-275 interchange through late 2026. Two lanes will remain open in each direction during this period.
The entire initiative is part of a $140 million investment aimed at reconstructing M-14/I-96 within Livonia and Plymouth Township. Further information about project details can be found at www.M14Reconstruction.org.
According to MDOT economic modeling, this infrastructure project is projected to support approximately 1,336 jobs directly or indirectly throughout its duration.
