After opening the 2025-26 season with three wins in Pennsylvania, the Northern Michigan Wildcats women’s basketball team is preparing for two more non-conference games in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The Wildcats will face Upper Iowa on Friday, November 14 at 6 p.m. ET and Lewis on Saturday, November 15 at 6 p.m. ET.
In their first weekend of play at the CCA Tip-Off Classic, Northern Michigan defeated California (Pa.) 66-57, Gannon 60-58, and Edinboro 65-50. Jacy Weisbrod led the team with a total of 51 points and made 11 three-pointers over those three games. Sydney Whitehouse contributed 31 points, while also adding defensive stats with three steals and three blocks. Weisbrod recorded three steals as well.
The Wildcats have outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 191-165 through their first three games and are averaging nearly 64 points per game. They also hold a significant rebounding advantage with a total of 118 compared to opponents’ 84. Alyssa Hill leads the team in rebounds with an average of nearly eight per game and has posted a field goal percentage above .600.
Weisbrod, who was named to the Preseason All-GLIAC First Team, is currently averaging 17 points per game and shooting over .520 from beyond the arc. She has collected a total of 18 rebounds so far this season. Other notable contributors include CJ Romero, who leads in assists with 14, and Sarah Newcomer, who has made six three-pointers.
The upcoming matchup against Upper Iowa marks the Peacocks’ first official game this season; last year they finished with an overall record just below .500 in GLVC play. This will be the teams’ first meeting since the late seventies when Northern Michigan won their previous encounter.
Lewis opens its regular season against NMU after playing two exhibition contests earlier this month. The Flyers finished last season with only four losses and reached the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated in the opening round.
Northern Michigan will return home next week to host St. Cloud State on Thursday, November 20 and Minnesota Duluth on Friday, November 21 at Vandament Arena.
Coach Casey Thousand said: "Both teams are from the GLVC and it's one game at a time, but we are focused on us. We have to make sure we have our stuff right before we are more focused on other teams."
