The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that two intersections along M-58 (State Street) in Saginaw will be closed for paving work next week. The intersection at Mackinaw Street will close on Thursday, November 13, and the intersection at Warwick Street will close on Friday, November 14. During these closures, northbound and southbound traffic will not be able to cross M-58 at these locations.
Currently, eastbound M-58 (State Street) is closed and detoured onto westbound M-58 (Davenport Avenue). Westbound M-58 has been temporarily converted into a two-way road with a center turn lane to accommodate traffic during the project.
This paving is part of a larger effort to rebuild 1.1 miles of eastbound M-58 from Avalon Avenue to M-84 (Bay Street). The project includes hot-mix asphalt rebuilding, installation of new concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks, upgrades to traffic signals, new signage, landscaping improvements and pavement markings. MDOT is working with the City of Saginaw on upgrades to city sewers and water mains as part of this construction.
According to economic modeling by MDOT, the $13 million investment in this project is projected to support 124 jobs directly and indirectly.
