The Northern Michigan Wildcats men's swimming team hosted the Wayne State Warriors at the PEIF Pool in Marquette to begin their weekend competition. The Wildcats secured eight podium finishes across various events on Friday night.

The meet began with the 200 medley relay, where NMU's A team—composed of Rocheleau, Tease, LaCount, and Khmara—finished first with a time of 1:32.11. The B team, featuring Ballardin, Rosatelli, Boomer, and Fulconi, took third place.

In the 100 individual medley (IM), five heats were held among 36 swimmers. Swiatkowski led after heat two with a time of 55.34 seconds. Tease posted a leading time of 54.06 in heat four before being surpassed by seven swimmers in the final heat. Ballardin finished second in the event with a time of 52.37 seconds, followed closely by Fulconi in third at 52.58 seconds.

The NMU A team also claimed gold in the 200 freestyle relay with a finish of 1:22.59, while the B team placed third at 1:26.07.

During the skins elimination contest—a multi-round sprint event—Ballardin advanced through each stroke and ultimately defeated Gabriel Arias Hernandez from Wayne State in the butterfly final to win gold. Ballardin was sixth in freestyle, third in breaststroke, and second in backstroke before securing his victory.

On the diving boards, Diego Carrillo earned silver in the 1-meter event with a score of 431.00 and took bronze on the 3-meter board.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete again against Wayne State on Saturday morning at PEIF Pool starting at 10 a.m.
