Effective December 1, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will increase toll rates for eastbound travel on the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron by $1, raising the cost to $5. This adjustment is intended to help cover higher maintenance and operations expenses, as well as support construction improvements at the bridge’s plaza.
The new toll rate marks the second step in a staggered increase that began in 2024. MDOT initially raised rates by $1 last year after soliciting input from the public and regular commuters through a survey. "Following an overwhelming response from a public survey, BWB administration implemented the first $1 rate increase on Dec. 1, 2024, with this next $1 increase beginning this Dec. 1," according to MDOT.
Before these adjustments, toll rates had remained unchanged for 14 years for both commuter and commercial vehicles.
Starting December 1, all vehicles will be subject to the following rates: cars will pay $5 per crossing; each extra axle will also cost $5; trucks and buses will be charged $5.25 per axle. EDGE Pass Commuter holders will continue to receive a $0.50 discount per crossing. More details about EDGE Pass discounts are available at www.BlueWaterBridge.us/.
