The Northern Michigan University women's soccer team secured a 5-1 victory over Roosevelt in a match played on October 31, 2025, in Marquette. The game took place under challenging weather conditions with temperatures at 34 degrees and rain throughout the contest.
NMU took control early, scoring two goals in the first half from Alyse Daavettila and Addison Frantti. By halftime, the Wildcats led 2-0, having outshot the Lakers 14-6 and earning five corner kicks while allowing none to their opponent.
Roosevelt managed to cut the lead in half early in the second period with a goal by Daisy Hernandez-Loya. However, Northern responded with three unanswered goals from Hannah Kastamo, Kenna Alexander (on a penalty kick), and Gretchen Ellis. The Wildcats dominated offensively, finishing with a total of 27 shots to Roosevelt's 11 and holding possession for 61 percent of the match. When in possession, NMU spent 77 percent of that time in their attacking half.
Describing the opening moments of the game: "Alexander sent a corner kick into the box that bounced around before landing to Bilbia. Bilbia played a ball to Daavettila, who made no mistake from in close to score her second of the season."
On the team's second goal: "Senese was able to get near the goal and make some defensive moves, including stopping the ball near the goal. Frantti was right behind Lorens and was able to get the ball into goal."
After Roosevelt's only goal of the match: "Northern regained its third goal of the game when Kastamo stole the ball and made a terrific individual effort to find goal."
The fourth came from Alexander on a penalty kick: "A penalty kick from Alexander was able to make the game 4-1."
Ellis added NMU's fifth: "Ellis was set up for the goal after a pass from Olivia Moreno and Kastamo. Ellis was able to connect the ball into the far corner of the goal to make the score 5-1."
The Wildcats are scheduled for their next home match against Parkside on November 2 at 11:00 a.m., which will also mark senior day for NMU.
