The Northern Michigan University women's soccer team will play two of its final three regular-season games at home, facing Roosevelt and Parkside during senior weekend in Marquette. The team plans to honor seniors Hannah Kastamo, Addison Wargo, Kenna Alexander, Jillian Thompson, and Olivia Moreno before the match against Parkside on Sunday.
Currently holding a 3-7-5 overall record and 3-6-2 in the GLIAC conference, the Wildcats are coming off a challenging road trip. They faced Grand Valley State University (GVSU), the conference leader and fifth-ranked team nationally, followed by a 2-2 draw with Ferris State. Madison Bilbia scored a late goal in that match to secure a point for NMU.
The Wildcats have not yet secured a spot in the GLIAC postseason tournament. They are in sixth place with 11 points, four points ahead of last-place Roosevelt and Michigan Tech.
Roosevelt enters the matchup with a 4-8-1 overall record and is 2-7-1 in conference play. Last weekend they lost to Saginaw Valley State but defeated Purdue Northwest 3-0. This game is important for Roosevelt as a win would bring them within one point of NMU; a loss would widen the gap to seven points.
Parkside has already clinched a spot in the GLIAC tournament and sits second in the conference standings with a 7-5-2 overall record (7-2-1 GLIAC). Their recent games included a loss to Ferris State and a win over Davenport. Earlier this season, Parkside beat NMU 2-1 at home, but Northern Michigan has not lost to Parkside at home since 2019.
NMU head coach Egolf commented on senior weekend: "Our seniors have been great. They've made a huge impact on this program, and we want to do right by them this weekend…I think there's always an intensity about our team to want to go out and perform well, and with senior weekend added on top of that, I can't wait to see what that looks like."
In their previous outings, NMU played GVSU close for most of the first half before conceding two late goals prior to halftime. Against Ferris State, Kenna Alexander opened scoring for NMU before Ferris State responded with two goals prior to halftime. In the closing minutes of that game, Alexander assisted Madison Bilbia's goal from a corner kick to earn NMU another point.
Since joining the GLIAC in 2024, Roosevelt has lost all three matches against Northern Michigan. Daisy Garcia leads Roosevelt with five goals and thirteen points—ranking among conference leaders—while goalkeeper Roxy Herrera recently returned from injury and earned her first GLIAC weekly honor after recording thirty-eight saves across her last five starts.
For Parkside, Emily Mikkelson leads both her team and the conference in assists while also tallying twelve points this season. Senior goalkeeper Tristen Cross averages over four saves per game—third best in the league.
