The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close M-81 in Caro, Tuscola County, from November 10 to November 23, 2025, for a railroad crossing replacement project. The department is allocating about $213,000 for the work.

According to MDOT, the project includes cold milling, hot-mix asphalt overlay, curb and gutter work, and sidewalk improvements. During construction, M-81 will be closed in both directions. Traffic will be detoured using Frank Street (old M-24) to M-24 and back to M-81.

MDOT stated that the purpose of this work is to improve the road surface and extend the lifespan of the at-grade railroad crossing.
