The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced a public meeting to discuss the upcoming M-14/I-96 rebuilding project in Livonia and Plymouth Township. The two-year project is set to commence in late February, focusing on reconstructing the eastbound side from Sheldon Road to Newburgh Road this year. The westbound lanes will undergo reconstruction next year.
The meeting aims to provide community partners, city representatives, local businesses, interested residents, MDOT staff, and contractors with an opportunity to engage with the project team. Attendees can share comments, review exhibits, and learn more about the project's specifics.
Scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the meeting will be held at Plymouth Township Hall located at 9955 North Haggerty Road in Plymouth.
For those requiring special assistance such as mobility or hearing accommodations for effective participation, MDOT advises contacting Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or via email at CurryO@Michigan.gov at least five business days before the meeting. Late requests will be evaluated based on feasibility.
MDOT has carefully planned traffic control measures for this project affecting approximately 125,000 daily drivers near the I-275 interchange. During this year's work on eastbound lanes, one lane will remain open between Beck Road and Levan Road while all entrance and exit ramps from Beck to Newburgh roads are closed. Additionally, I-275 ramps to eastbound I-96 will be shut down for about two months; other ramps will stay closed through late 2025. Westbound traffic will have two lanes open with all exit ramps accessible.
Next year's focus on westbound lanes will maintain two open lanes in each direction despite several ramp closures. The Metro Trail is slated for reconstruction during the 2026 season. Further details are available at www.M14reconstruction.org.
