The NMU alpine ski team concluded its weekend competition in Biwabik, Minnesota, with another impressive performance in the slalom events. Both the men's and women's teams secured top positions, sweeping the podium.
In the women's event, NMU finished first with a total time of 4:22.31. UWMAD followed in second place at 4:37.63, while UMD took third at 4:38.80. The men also claimed victory with a total time of 3:36.65, ahead of UWMAD's 3:47.22 and Michigan Tech's 3:52.57.
Both teams emerged victorious in the combined giant slalom and slalom events over the weekend.
"The conditions were perfect," said head coach Erik Lundteigen. "The cold temperatures lead to hard snow and great racing conditions, and both teams placed six athletes in the top ten, finishing off a great weekend for us."
Reagan Olli led the women's team with a gold medal finish and a combined time of 1:21.49. Marisa Witte secured silver with a time of 1:22.64 after achieving the fastest second run result at 38.83 seconds.
For the men, Aaron Grzelak took gold with his time of 1:10.85, posting the fastest result in run one at 35.51 seconds.
The NMU alpine ski team is set to compete again next weekend at Spirit Mountain in Duluth on February 1st and 2nd.
