Skylar Grubb and Madi Szymanski of Northern Michigan University's Track & Field team achieved victories on the first day of the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California. Grubb secured her second consecutive win by finishing first in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 36:59.48. Szymanski won the 5,000-meter event, setting a personal record with a time of 16:58.75, which also met the NCAA provisional mark.
In addition to these achievements, three other team members participated in the 800-meter race. Gianna Hoving completed it in 2:14.38, Beverly Harper finished at 2:19.01, and Lamar Gordon crossed the line at 2:22.96. The event's top heats are scheduled for Saturday.
The Beach Invitational will conclude on April 13th with several Northern Michigan athletes competing across various events starting at 1 p.m. ET. Hoving and Szymanski will run in the 1,500 meters; Ahna Larson and Natalie Pisoke will participate in the 400-meter hurdles; Baux Truckey and Jahtivya Williams will compete in the 200 meters; Ellyse Wolfrath and Crystal Walker will contest the 100-meter hurdles; Harper is set for the 400 meters; Walker will also take part in the long jump; and NMU teams will enter both the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays.
