Camilla Carbone, a member of the Northern Michigan University (NMU) Swim and Dive Team, has been recognized with the GLIAC Commissioner's Award. This award is one of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) most prestigious honors.
The GLIAC Commissioner's Awards are presented after each athletic season—fall, winter, and spring—to six female and six male student-athletes who are juniors, seniors, or graduate students. These athletes must excel both academically and athletically. The grade-point averages for consideration are based on a 4.0 scale.
Carbone's achievements this season include maintaining an impressive 3.98 GPA and earning three All-American honors at the NCAA Championships. She received First-Team All-America recognition in the 200 medley relay and 100 backstroke, as well as Second-Team All-America in the 400 medley relay.
In addition to her national accolades, Carbone performed exceptionally at the GLIAC Championships. She won gold medals in the 200 medley relay and 100 backstroke events, secured a silver medal in the 400 medley relay, and finished fourth in the 200 backstroke.
Carbone also set several records this year: school records in the 50 backstroke and 200 medley relay; pool records in these events as well as in the 400 medley relay.
Earlier this year, Carbone was named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week during week four. Throughout the year, she achieved gold medals in nine different races.
