NMU ski teams excel on day one of regional championships

The Northern Michigan University (NMU) alpine ski teams had a strong performance on the first day of the 2025 MCSA Regional Championships at Marquette Mountain. The teams secured 12 out of the top 20 positions in the slalom event, with notable achievements from both the women's and men's teams.

In the women's competition, NMU athletes swept the podium. Reagan Olli took gold with a combined time of 1:18.77, posting the fastest times in both runs. Ainsley Kirk followed closely to claim silver with a final time of 1:20.04, while Ella Wichert secured bronze with a time of 1:21.19.

The team continued its dominance as Maddy Stern finished fourth at 1:21.98, Marissa Witte came fifth at 1:22.18, and Tommie Springer placed sixth at 1:22.52. Emily Creek completed NMU's presence in the top ten by finishing eighth with a time of 1:23.98.

On the men's side, Reed Heathman led NMU to victory by winning gold with a time of 1:14.09, narrowly beating teammate Kayan Hopke who claimed silver at 1:14.14. Anthony Petkov contributed to team scoring by finishing fifth with a combined time of 1:15.99, while Connor Abraham was sixth at 1:16.63 and Andrew Truman rounded out NMU's top ten finishers with his time of 1:16.90.

With these results, NMU heads into tomorrow's giant slalom event holding a significant lead in the regional championships.
