Kzoo Parks will host six Summer Cinema events this year at different parks and community spaces throughout the city. The Summer Cinema movie series offers free outdoor movies on select Fridays throughout the summer:

  • June 10 – Shark Tale at Upjohn Park (1000 Walter Street)
    • This movie will follow the Summer Kickoff event in Upjohn Park from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • June 24 - Raya and the Last Dragon at Oakwood Neighborhood Association (3320 Laird Avenue)
  • July 8 – Encanto at Frays Park (4400 Canterbury Avenue)
  • July 22 - U Pick the Flick at Frays Park (4400 Canterbury Avenue)
  • August 5 - Sing 2 at South Westnedge Park (1101 S Westnedge Avenue)
  • August 19 - U Pick the Flick at South Westnedge Park (1101 S Westnedge Avenue)
Two of the movies shown will be determined by popular vote. Community members can vote for the July 22 Frays Park movie through July 7 here and the August 19 South Westnedge Park movie through August 4 here.

At each event the video screen will be set up with music playing at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7 p.m. Community members are welcome to settle into their spot and enjoy time in the park before the movie begins. Snacks will also be provided while supplies last.

A free disc golf clinic will be held just before each movie, starting at 6 p.m. Members of the Professional Disc Golf Association will teach participants the basic skills of disc golf like driving, approach throws, and putting. Portable baskets and discs will be available for community members to use. Free face painting will also be offered at the June 24, July 8, July 22, August 5, and August 19 movies.

Attendees should remain cautious and follow CDC and local health official guidelines to protect themselves and the community from COVID-19. Summer Cinema events are free, and all community members are welcome.
