Grand Rapids Community College issued the following announcement on Sept. 3.
The Heritage Restaurant operated by Grand Rapids Community College’s Secchia Institute for Culinary Education, will reopen to the public Sept. 9 with strict safety protocols.
The Heritage is a fine dining public restaurant staffed by culinary school students under chef and hospitality professors' guidance. The restaurant has been closed since March because of the coronavirus crisis.
"We are excited to open The Heritage Restaurant again. Even on a limited basis, our students can continue their education in a safe, controlled environment. The Secchia Institute's faculty and staff went through great lengths over the summer to redevelop the curriculum. These changes allow us to follow the latest CDC, state, and Kent County Health Department COVID-19 regulations and guidelines," said Chef Werner Absenger, the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education's program director.
"We are extremely pleased that this work's culmination allows our students to share their talents with our community. The Heritage Restaurant provides one of the best fine dining experiences in West Michigan. We're proud of that."
The restaurant will reopen with limited seating of four tables per night with a maximum of four guests per table to maintain social distancing.
Dinner will be open to the public; lunch will be limited to GRCC faculty and staff. Fall 2020 reservations will be taken by phone only. Please call (616) 234-3700 to reserve a table. No walk-ins, please.
The fall 2020 semester's dinner menu features entrees such as Ishi Yaki Buri Bop, Monkfish Osso Bucco, Stuffed Quail with Cornbread, and Foie Gras Stuffing, Benton's Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon, amongst others.
Art & Bev’s, the café operated by the Secchia Institute, will be open for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for the first half of the fall semester. All meals will be for take-out service, and the number of patrons in the restaurant will be limited.
The Fountain Hill Brewery will remain closed for the semester.
The Heritage is located in the GRCC Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center at 151 Fountain St. NE. Parking is off of Ransom Avenue.
