CAREER QUEST LEARNING CENTER -MT. PLEASANT: Career Quest Learning Centers Offers Tuition Discount to Dislocated Workers

College1

Career Quest Learning Center-Mt. Pleasant issued the following announcement on Nov. 12

Career Quest Learning Centers is proud to offer a new tuition discount for workers who have been dislocated or displaced from their current job. This discount is 15% off of a student’s total tuition, and to be eligible a student must meet one or more of the following criteria:

Has been laid off or received a lay-off notice from their employer.

Is receiving (or exhausted) unemployment benefits due to being laid off or losing a job and is unlikely to return to a previous occupation.

Is self-employed but is unemployed due to economic conditions or natural disaster.

Is the spouse of an active duty member of the Armed Forces and has experienced a loss of employment because of relocating due to permanent change in duty station.

Is the spouse of an active duty member of the Armed Forces and is unemployed or underemployed, and is experiencing difficulty in obtaining or upgrading employment.

Is a displaced homemaker. A displaced homemaker is generally a person who previously provided unpaid services to the family (e.g., a stay-at-home mom or dad), is no longer supported by the spouse, is unemployed or underemployed, and is having trouble finding or upgrading employment.

The idea of the discount emerged after a recent strike with General Motors employees had manufacturers laying off their workers- and even closing up shop. “The fact that Michigan has such low unemployment and worker shortages, yet we still have plant closings and dislocated workers, is prime evidence of the shift to a global, services and information-based economy,” says Career Quest CEO Dr. Jim Hutton. “This is why retaining in high-demand areas is often the best solution for unemployed, underemployed or dislocated workers. We are proud to be a part of our Michigan communities and want to do our part to meet our mission of, ‘Changing lives by preparing individuals to meet our community’s workforce development needs.”

To determine eligibility, students must meet with an Admissions Representative to identify an appropriate program and provide proper documentation. This could include a letter of separation from a previous employer, proof of unemployment benefits, a lay off notification from an employer, or proof of self-employment.

The discount hits home for Career Quest’s Chief Operating Officer Richard Zeeman. “Having come from a family who worked in the manufacturing industry for decades, I know first-hand the challenges that a plant closing or lay-off can present,” says Zeeman. “It is our desire here at Career Quest to help dislocated workers across central Michigan pivot to a new career and we hope that this tuition discount will help in that transition.”

Since 1995, Career Quest has implemented its mission to change lives by preparing individuals to meet our community’s workforce development needs. To learn more about Career Quest Learning Centers Dislocated Worker discount, visit us online at www.careerquest.edu or call us today at 877-481-4930.
