An Eaton County resident, Kaci Powers of Charlotte, won a $150,000 Powerball prize after purchasing her ticket online through the Michigan Lottery website. Powers matched four white balls and the Powerball in the August 16 drawing, initially earning a $50,000 prize. Because she selected the Power Play option, her winnings were tripled to $150,000.

Powers explained how she decided to play: “I saw on a commercial that the Powerball jackpot was over $500 million, and I didn’t feel like going to the store, so I bought a ticket online,” said Powers. “When I logged into my Lottery account the next day, I saw a whole bunch of numbers on the prize notification that popped up! At first, I was confused and then when I realized I’d won $150,000, I went into shock!”

After learning about her win through her Michigan Lottery account notification, Powers visited Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. She plans to use part of her winnings for a family vacation and save the rest.

Powerball tickets can be purchased for $2 at retailers statewide or online at MichiganLottery.com. Players may add the "Power Play" feature for an extra dollar per play to multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to ten times with a maximum payout of $2 million. The Double Play option is also available for an additional dollar per play and gives players another chance at winning up to $10 million in nightly drawings.

Drawings take place three times weekly—Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday—and are streamed live at http://www.powerball.com. Tickets are sold in 45 states as well as Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
