A public comment period has commenced for the permits required to start construction on the Great Lakes Tunnel. Enbridge, the company behind the project, has invested over 40,000 hours in survey work at the Straits and submitted their findings to permitters. This process is noted as one of Michigan's most comprehensive project reviews.

The proposed tunnel aims to enhance safety by relocating a portion of Line 5 from water into a tunnel beneath the lakebed. The goal is to make an already secure pipeline even safer.

Supporters are encouraged to sign a public letter urging regulators to grant these permits promptly.

Enbridge highlights that transporting crude oil equivalent to Line 5's capacity would require either 2,000 trucks or 80 railcars daily, underscoring the importance of supporting Line 5 and advancing the tunnel's construction.
