Due to heavy snowfall, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has delayed roadwork initially scheduled for today on M-46 east of Sandusky in Sanilac County. The work is now set to begin on Thursday, February 20.
This project is part of a $26.4 million investment aimed at rebuilding and improving M-46 in Sanilac County. The current phase involves resurfacing the highway from the Sandusky east city limit to the Carsonville west village limit and replacing the M-46 bridge over the Black River. In 2024, work included rebuilding parts of M-46 within Sandusky, updating storm sewers, traffic signals, curbs, sidewalks, and making safety improvements along with enhancements to M-19 in Sandusky.
During this construction phase, M-46 will be closed in both directions. Traffic will be rerouted via Ruth Road to Forester Road and Maple Grove Road. Additionally, the carpool lot on M-46 east of Ruth Road will remain closed while work is underway.
The MDOT assures that these efforts will result in "a smoother, safer driving surface" for motorists upon completion.
