Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has reached agreements with Baker’s Best Health and its twin company, American Master Products, following an investigation into their business practices. The companies were scrutinized for possible violations of the Michigan Consumer Protection Act and Unsolicited Merchandise Act due to consumer complaints about misleading postcards.

The postcards allegedly promised recipients a "gift" and a risk-free trial of a product without clearly stating that accepting the gift required participation in the trial. The postcards used urgent language suggesting no cost was involved. Consumers who responded received the gift along with a trial product or book and an invoice revealing undisclosed terms such as charges for shipping, automatic billing enrollments, and data-sharing disclosures.

As part of the resolution, both companies have agreed to cease unfair business practices, cancel outstanding consumer balances nationwide, honor do-not-contact requests, refrain from sending unsolicited products, and address billing inquiries by issuing refunds when consent records are missing.

Nessel advises consumers to be cautious about offers that seem overly generous. "Consumers should remember that if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is," she said. "Before accepting any offer, take the time to read the fine print and ask questions."

The Attorney General is also reminding residents of available resources to reduce unwanted solicitations and encourages reviewing Federal Trade Commission guidance on negative option subscriptions.
