Strong weekend for Northern Michigan University athletics

Northern Michigan University (NMU) had a busy weekend in athletics, showcasing strong performances across various sports from February 13 to February 16.

The women's basketball team achieved a decisive 67-44 victory over Lake Superior State University (LSSU), with Sydney Whitehouse scoring a season-high of 17 points. The men's basketball team faced a tough overtime loss against LSSU, finishing at 80-74 despite Dylan Kuehl's impressive game-high of 25 points.

In lacrosse, NMU secured a commanding win over Walsh with a score of 19-6. Maddi Bast and Josie Lakosky each scored six goals, marking significant personal achievements for both players. Hannah Jabas made her Wildcat debut memorable with a hat-trick and two assists.

The NMU ski teams also delivered noteworthy results at their respective championships. Victoria Dybwad claimed first place in the women's Nordic ski 20k mass start at the Conference Championships. The alpine ski teams excelled at the Regional Championships, sweeping podium positions in both men's and women's events.

On Saturday, NMU women's basketball continued their winning streak by defeating Ferris State 75-48. Alyssa Hill led the team with a season-high of 19 points. Meanwhile, the men's basketball team fell short against Ferris State with a scoreline of 91-84 despite Kuehl's career-high performance.

In track and field, Ahna Larson won the 400m hurdle event at Maverick Premier #2 with her personal-best time, while Ciara Ostrenga followed closely behind.

Sunday concluded with more victories for NMU as Adrik Kraftson took first place in the men's Nordic ski 7.5k classic event. The alpine ski teams continued their success by claiming regional champion titles and advancing to Nationals after dominating the giant slalom events.

NMU lacrosse ended on another high note by defeating UW-Stout 18-1, marking only the third time in program history that they allowed one goal or fewer in a single game.
