The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is seeking applicants for a grant funding opportunity aimed at expanding behavioral health services across the state. This initiative is focused on establishing or enhancing community-based mobile crisis intervention services.
The program's objective is to increase the availability of behavioral health crisis services for all Michigan residents, regardless of their location, diagnosis, or insurance status. The grant aims to support agencies in implementing new crisis response initiatives and building capacity for both new and existing programs.
Grant funds are designated for developing and deploying 24/7 crisis response services as an alternative to emergency room visits. These may include two-person mobile crisis teams or other response models. Services must be delivered in the community where a crisis occurs and can involve screening, assessment, de-escalation, stabilization, coordination with, and referrals to necessary health and social services.
Eligible applicants include local public entities such as federally recognized tribal governments and local health departments. The initial grant period runs from April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025, with $1.8 million available. Successful applicants may receive up to $225,000 each.
Continuation awards of up to $775,000 per applicant will be available from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2027. The total amount available per applicant over the entire period is $1 million. MDHHS plans to issue up to seven awards.
Applications must be submitted electronically via the EGrAMS system by February 11 at 3 p.m. A pre-application conference will take place on January 16 at 8:30 a.m., lasting approximately 90 minutes. Access details are provided online.
