A Cass County resident experienced a significant windfall after discovering he had won a $1 million Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery. Robert Cusumano, 65, was alerted to his win by a notification on his phone the morning following the drawing.
“I woke up the morning after the drawing, and checked the alerts on my phone,” Cusumano stated. “Right there on the screen, was an alert that a $1 million Powerball prize had been won on a ticket bought at Big T."
Cusumano purchased his winning ticket at Big T, located at 155 Main Street in Lawton. The town is approximately 20 miles southwest of Kalamazoo. His ticket matched all five white balls drawn on March 1: 02-23-36-44-49.
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli commented on Cusumano's win, saying, “Waking up to a $1 million prize would be a dream come true, and a life changing moment. Congratulations to Robert and his family!”
Reflecting on his regular participation in lottery games, Cusumano remarked, “I play pretty regularly and buy tickets wherever I happen to be. This is the most I have ever won, and I am going to use it to invest in my future.”
Powerball tickets are available for purchase at $2 each through various retailers across Michigan or online via MichiganLottery.com. Players can enhance their chances with options such as "Power Play" for an additional dollar or "Double Play" for another chance to win up to $10 million.
The Powerball draws occur thrice weekly—Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday—at 10:59 p.m., viewable live online. Tickets are sold across 45 states along with Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
