Northern Michigan wins Bay College Invitational ahead of GLIAC Championship

A group of runners from the Northern Michigan cross country team participated in the 5K Bay College Invitational on Friday, securing a first-place finish among six competing teams. This event served as their final preparation before the GLIAC Championship race scheduled for next weekend.

The Northern Michigan team had four runners finishing within the top nine and all seven team members placed in the top 16, ensuring a strong performance. Brooke Lemos led her team by finishing fifth with a time of 20:39.3. Lola Korpi followed closely behind, securing sixth place with a time of 20:46.6.

Ella DeBruyn finished eighth with a time of 20:56.5, while Samantha Zolnierek took ninth place, clocking in at 21:02.8. Endla Harris came in twelfth at 21:34.0, Taryn Maki crossed the line at 21:50.8 for fourteenth place, and Attica Brandt finished sixteenth with a time of 22:41.5.

Fiona Metzo from the NMU Club emerged as the individual winner with a time of 19:55.5.

The Northern Michigan team now turns its focus to the postseason as they prepare for the GLIAC Championship race on Saturday, October 26, in Big Rapids hosted by Ferris State.
