Dianne Hartwell, the owner and founder of Little Blessings Learning Center, has been a prominent figure in the Lansing area for over 30 years. The center has received the Governor’s Quality Care Award and maintains a 4-star rating in Michigan. Partnering with Great Start to Quality and the Association for Child Development Food Program, Little Blessings ensures quality learning experiences and proper nutrition for children.

Hartwell's commitment extends beyond her business; she serves on several boards, including SBAM’s, and her five children are also involved in day-to-day operations. "I feel like it is my calling! I have tried other career avenues, and nothing sparked my interest more than working with kids," Hartwell said.

Expanding to three locations and purchasing additional property for events and fundraisers, Hartwell attributes her success to passion: "I enjoy it! It’s just as much a hobby as a career."

Her succession plan involves her younger daughter and son as directors while her other children assist with after-hours operations. "My kids have been raised in the business since they were born. They probably know it better than me!" she noted.

Hartwell emphasizes investing in staff through training and education to retain them: "Investing in my staff has cut down a lot of turnovers." She believes that ensuring families have resources for proper child care is essential: "Good quality services are necessary for care."

Reflecting on values guiding her business, Hartwell stated, "I believe every kid deserves a chance to be their best." Her experiences with diverse children have made her more open-minded: "These challenges have taught me to be humble."

Hartwell's involvement with SBAM has also contributed to running her business efficiently.
