Former Westland Police Sgt. Kevin Yudt, 42, of Grass Lake, has been bound over to stand trial for two counts of ethnic intimidation and two counts of assault and battery, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. The charges relate to an incident on April 6, 2023, when security at MGM Grand Detroit denied Yudt and a friend access to the casino floor due to his apparent intoxication.
After being denied access, Yudt allegedly identified himself as a Westland police sergeant and told security, “I’ll be waiting for you when you come to Westland, and you will not survive.” He also allegedly poked the security officers in the chest while shouting racial slurs. Yudt was terminated from his employment with the Westland Police Department in May 2023.
“My office takes allegations of ethnic intimidation and assault very seriously and will prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law,” said Nessel.
Yudt is scheduled to appear next in 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 9 a.m.
Please note: For all criminal proceedings, a criminal charge is merely an allegation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The Department does not provide booking photos.
