The National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) recently held its annual conference, attended by multiple MPHI staff members. NNPHI is a national organization aimed at connecting public health professionals and advancing professional development in the field. This year’s event took place in New Orleans, Louisiana.

MPHI staff explored new concepts and strategies for supporting healthy communities. Judy Spanogle, ILC Conference Center Customer Service Assistant, attended the conference for the first time this year and shared that the experience helped her to see where MPHI fit into the national network of institutes.

“The whole conference was eye-opening to see where the institutes were at,” said Spanogle. “It was exciting to see where MPHI lands in this realm and to see the impact of our national reach.”

The conference featured various speakers, including Linda Gordon, Associate Director of The Center for Health Equity Practice, who presented on advancing equity, and Nicole Wood, Social Media and Communications Specialist, who presented on science communication. Other speakers represented public health institutes, departments of health, universities, and nonprofits from across the nation. Presentations covered topics such as equity and inclusion, health disparities, community engagement, mental and behavioral health, science communication, and telemedicine.

Overall, the conference served as a space for public health professionals to come together from across the nation to share their passion for making a difference.

“I found the conference energizing,” said Judy Spanogle. “There were all these people who wanted to do their best to make the world a better place.”
