Oakland Schools recently issued the following announcement.
Dear OSTC Supporters:
On Tuesday, Feb. 8, the Royal Oak Planning Commission voted 3 to 2 to not recommend an application for a special land use permit and site plan by the Gatsby Cannabis Co. to establish a marijuana business to include retail, processor and grower operations within a building directly adjacent to the Oakland Schools Technical Campus-SE at 5130 Meijer Dr.
I am very pleased with the Planning Commission’s decision. Our work however does not end here.
The application submitted by Gatsby Cannabis Co. now moves on to the Royal Oak City Council for consideration. If approved, the proposed facility would operate only 88 feet from OSTC-SE.
Oakland Schools is urging the Royal Oak City Council to accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission and reject the application submitted by Gatsby Cannabis Co. I am hopeful that the council will also take into consideration the many letters of support that have been submitted by our constituents who are strongly opposed to this marijuana retailer operating just feet away from our school.
I am grateful for everyone, including concerned neighbors, parents, and educators who attended Tuesday’s public hearing to speak out against this dangerous proposal.
I will keep you informed of any developments on this matter. Thank you again for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson
Superintendent, Oakland Schools
