The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced that the traffic signal at the intersection of M-26 and Houghton Canal Road in Houghton will be switched to flash mode starting early Tuesday, October 28. During the winter season, the signal will display a flashing yellow light for drivers on M-26 and a flashing red light for those on Houghton Canal Road. MDOT noted that this schedule may change depending on weather conditions.
Drivers are advised by MDOT to stay alert to these changes and exercise caution when approaching the intersection.
The traffic signal was installed earlier this summer. According to MDOT, it is planned to operate normally from about May through October each year, with flash mode used during winter months. The timing for switching between regular operation and flash mode is determined by traffic levels and weather patterns.
