A Detroit resident has won a $2 million Powerball prize, marking the second significant win for Michigan players this week. The winning ticket was purchased at Sunkiss Market on Puritan Street in Detroit. The player matched all five white balls in Wednesday night's drawing and used the Power Play option, which doubled their prize from $1 million to $2 million.
“"A lucky player who bought a Powerball ticket in Detroit is waking up to a big $2 million win! Congratulations to Michigan’s newest millionaire,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “The jackpot is still growing, and so is the excitement for Saturday night’s drawing!”"
Earlier this week, another Michigan player won $1 million with a ticket purchased at CVS Pharmacy on East Warren Avenue in Grosse Pointe.
The current Powerball jackpot stands at $1.70 billion for Saturday night’s drawing, with an estimated cash value of $770.3 million. This makes it the third-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history, following jackpots of $2.04 billion and $1.765 billion won in November 2022 and October 2023, respectively.
This Saturday's drawing will be the 42nd since the last time someone claimed the Powerball jackpot on May 31, 2025, in California. This streak sets a new record for consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner; previously, the record was 41 drawings as of April 6, 2024.
Powerball tickets are available for purchase at retailers throughout Michigan and online via MichiganLottery.com. Players can add options such as Power Play or Double Play to increase non-jackpot winnings or gain another chance to win during nightly draws.
Drawings occur three times weekly—Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday—and can be viewed live online at http://www.powerball.com. Tickets are sold across 45 states as well as Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
