On Friday, the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island denied a motion by the Trump Administration to vacate a preliminary injunction. This injunction was secured by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and a coalition of 19 other attorneys general to prevent the dismantling of several offices within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The court's order stated it "will not interpret the Supreme Court’s shadow docket summary orders (issued without any reasoning or explanation) as definitive indications as to how either the Supreme Court or the First Circuit Court of Appeals might rule on a motion to stay or on the merits of this case."

Attorney General Nessel expressed her relief in response: “I’m relieved the Court rejected yet another attempt by the Trump Administration to move forward with illegally dismantling pivotal divisions of the Department of Health and Human Services. While I’m certain the case will continue to be appealed through the courts, I remain committed to defending the health and safety of Michigan residents at every turn.”
