A woman from Montcalm County experienced a life-changing moment after winning $1 million through the Michigan Lottery's Electric 100s instant game. The 57-year-old winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, shared her excitement about the unexpected windfall.
"I scratched the ticket while I was on the phone with my daughter and when I scratched off the lightbulb symbol with ‘$1MIL’ next to it, I started screaming," she recounted. Her daughter initially thought something was wrong due to her exclamations of disbelief. After verifying her win using the Lottery app, she expressed her astonishment: "I think I screamed for 30 minutes straight! I’m still in awe and I can’t believe I’m actually here claiming $1 million."
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli congratulated the winner, noting that she is "the first top-prize winner on the Electric 100s game." She highlighted that this game is part of a new series offering significant prizes and opportunities for players. Non-winning tickets can be entered into a second-chance drawing for another chance at $1 million during a Detroit Tigers game later this year.
The winning ticket was purchased at Zerkas General Store in Stanton, located approximately 35 miles southwest of Mount Pleasant. The winner opted for a lump sum payment of around $693,000 instead of annuity payments. With her prize money, she plans to buy a house, share with family members, and invest.
Players are encouraged to scan their non-winning tickets by August 24th using the Michigan Lottery mobile app to participate in the $1,000,000 Electric Giveaway. Five finalists will be selected for an event at Comerica Park where one will win a $1 million prize.
Since its launch earlier this month, players have won over $5 million playing Electric 100s. Each ticket costs $10 and offers prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. Over $42 million in prizes are still available within this game series.
In 2024 alone, nearly $1.8 billion was won by lottery players through instant games across Michigan.
Lottery instant games are available at retailers statewide.
