Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has initiated legal action against two automotive suppliers based in Wixom, citing violations of environmental laws. The complaint was filed in the 30th Circuit Court in Ingham County against Tribar Technologies, Inc. and Adept Plastic Finishing, Inc., accusing them of breaching the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (NREPA).

The lawsuit claims that these companies have engaged in illegal discharges and air emissions at five facilities. Specifically, the complaint highlights a 2022 incident involving the release of hexavalent chromium, a hazardous chemical, into the Huron River through the Wixom Wastewater Treatment Plant. Furthermore, it accuses the companies of failing to adhere to water and air pollution standards and permitting requirements.

"Michigan’s environmental laws exist to protect the air we breathe and the water we use from toxic chemicals," stated Nessel. "When companies cut corners or violate these protections, my office will use every tool available to hold them accountable and ensure proper cleanup and compliance."

Phil Roos, Director of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, supported this stance: "Protection of public health and water resources is of the utmost importance in Michigan. We must ensure that those who violate the laws are held accountable and that parties responsible for pollution are held liable." He commended Attorney General Nessel for her actions.

Attorney General Nessel seeks civil penalties from Tribar Technologies and Adept Plastic Finishing for contamination cleanup. She also aims to impose penalties under the Michigan Business Corporation Act on Tribar for allegedly operating without a required certificate of authority in Michigan.
