The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team has been selected to finish second in the 2025-26 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Preseason Poll, according to an announcement by the league on Tuesday.
Grand Valley State was chosen as the preseason favorite, earning 100 points and 10 first-place votes. Northern Michigan followed with 87 points, narrowly ahead of Ferris State, which had 84 points and received one first-place vote. The rest of the poll included Parkside, Wayne State, Michigan Tech, Saginaw Valley State, Roosevelt, Davenport, Lake Superior State, and Purdue Northwest.
Northern Michigan finished second in the conference last season after posting a 15-5 record in GLIAC play. The Wildcats return twelve players from their previous NCAA Tournament roster. Among them are seniors Jacy Weisbrod and Sarah Newcomer. Weisbrod was named to the All-GLIAC First Team last year while Newcomer earned Second Team honors. They will be joined by five newcomers: four freshmen and one transfer.
Head coach Casey Thousand enters her fourth season leading the program with a cumulative record of 60-32 overall and 38-18 in conference games. "With depth, experience, and a proven leader guiding the program, Northern Michigan is poised to once again compete among the league's best in 2025-26," stated the release.
