Today, a decision by the District Court for the District of Massachusetts has blocked certain provisions in an executive order issued by former President Donald Trump. The court granted a preliminary injunction against the order, which aimed to impose significant voting restrictions nationwide.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel was among 19 attorneys general who filed a lawsuit challenging this executive order, known as Executive Order No. 14248 or the "Elections Executive Order." The lawsuit was initiated in April 2025.

Attorney General Nessel expressed her approval of the court's decision, stating: “Our elections are run by Michiganders, for Michigan voters, and are not dictated by a president with no regard for our laws or the Constitution. I am pleased the Court agreed that Donald Trump’s executive order would have unlawfully disrupted elections in our state and unilaterally undermined the democratic process for millions of voters. I remain committed to protecting the rights of our residents and defending Michigan’s election laws against attempts to erode them.”
