Michigan House Republicans have announced a series of education reform priorities aimed at modernizing curricula, expanding dual enrollment, and increasing transparency. The announcement was made on the social media platform X on April 16.

In response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer's State of the State address, Representative Bill G. Schuette highlighted the House Republicans' commitment to tangible education reforms. He criticized the current administration's track record, stating that under Whitmer's leadership, there has been "less accountability in education and worse results." Schuette emphasized that House Republicans have led with real, tangible policies aimed at improving literacy, math, and science scores across Michigan schools. These policies include streamlining teacher certification processes and enhancing the accountability of the State Board of Education to the public.

Schuette noted that their education plan aims to improve enrollment in post-secondary or trades programs, which aligns with the objectives of dual enrollment initiatives. By enhancing access to such programs, House Republicans seek to better prepare students for college and career pathways.

As of April 2025, according to data from the Michigan House of Representatives, the body comprises 110 members. Following the 2022 elections, Democrats hold a majority with 56 seats, while Republicans hold 54. Despite being in the minority, House Republicans continue to advocate for conservative policies, including education reform, fiscal responsibility, and infrastructure improvements.
