Michigan employers are required to update certain workplace resources and comply with a recent mandate. As of April 2, 2025, businesses must display a veteran’s resource poster, accessible to all employees, as per PA 197 of 2004. This act was enacted by the Michigan Legislature, calling for the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), in partnership with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, to provide these posters at no cost. The poster, which lists resources available to veterans, can be downloaded from LEO’s website. Two versions are available: a Blue Version and a White Version.

Furthermore, there are updates to the Employment Eligibility Verification form (Form I-9) initiated by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Dated January 20, 2025, with an expiration date of May 31, 2027, the revised Form I-9 now includes several key changes. These include renaming the fourth checkbox in Section 1 to “An alien authorized to work,” revising the descriptions of two List B documents, and updating the Department of Homeland Security Privacy Notice in the form’s instructions.

Starting April 3, 2025, E-Verify and E-Verify+ have also updated the Citizenship Status selection during case creation. The selection “A noncitizen authorized to work” is now updated to “An alien authorized to work.” Moreover, E-Verify users creating cases through Web Services applications will see the employee status attestation automatically reflect “An alien authorized to work,” regardless of the submission of “A noncitizen authorized to work” if the employee has selected citizenship status number four on Form I-9.
