The NMU women's nordic ski season concluded today with a challenging 40k classic mass start at the SuperTour Finals held in Lake Placid, New York. Among the 46 skiers who participated, 33 skiers finished the marathon race, with completion times ranging from two hours and fifteen minutes to three hours and sixteen minutes.
Henriette Nilssen and Merle Richter represented NMU, finishing 23rd and 25th overall. Nilssen showed significant movement during the race, initially ranking 26th at the 11.25k mark before advancing to 21st just 5k later. She eventually dropped to 23rd at 27.5k, maintaining that position to the end. Nilssen was 13th among collegiate athletes and 15th among those under 23.
Richter maintained more consistent placements throughout the race. She started and finished in 25th, varying between 22nd and 27th during the competition. After settling into 24th at the 16.25k marker, she ended in 25th overall. Richter was 17th among collegiate athletes and eighth among 'Senior' skiers.
Victoria Dybwad and Jordan Parent were unable to complete the race, with Dybwad dropping out after the 8.75k marker and Parent after 5k.
The SMS pro team led the front, with Jessie Diggins and Julia Kern taking gold and silver, respectively, finishing just 13 seconds apart with times of 2:16:45.3 and 2:16:59.2. Erica Laven from the University of Utah secured bronze, nearly six seconds behind at 2:22:30.2.
