A Powerball ticket worth $250,000 expired today, resulting in the prize being transferred to the state School Aid Fund. The ticket, which was purchased at a Kroger store on Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Hills, expired at 4:45 p.m.

Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli commented on the situation: “While we want all players to claim the prizes they’ve won, providing an extra $250,000 to the School Aid Fund today is a big win for public education in Michigan.” She added that last year, the Lottery contributed over $1 billion to the School Aid Fund for the sixth consecutive year and expressed optimism about another successful year in FY25.

Powerball tickets are valid for one year from their drawing date. The largest unclaimed lottery prize in Michigan occurred in 1998 when a $34 million prize went unclaimed. That winning ticket was purchased at a Meijer store on West Lake Lansing Road in East Lansing.
