NMU skiers complete day one at NCAA Championships

The NMU women's nordic ski team participated in the NCAA Championships, with athletes Henriette Nilssen and Victoria Dybwad competing in the 7.5k classic event. Nilssen started her race at 10:18 AM, securing the 30th position with a time of 26:37.3, earning one point for her team. Dybwad, who began three and a half minutes earlier, finished in 31st place with a time of 26:39.2.

In the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) rankings, Greta Leitheiser from the College of Saint Scholastica was the top finisher, placing 24th overall and gaining seven points with a time of 26:09.7. Marie Wangen from Michigan Tech followed as the second CCSA skier, finishing 28th overall and earning three points with a time of 26:24.2. Nilssen was third among conference skiers, while Dybwad came fourth.

A total of 40 individuals from 17 institutions competed on the course. Erica Laven from the University of Utah led with a top time of 23:43.3. Annie McColgan from the University of Vermont secured silver with a time of 23:54.4, and Jasmine Drolet from Dartmouth claimed bronze with a time of 24:14.3.

Among CCSA schools, College of Saint Scholastica ranked 12th overall with seven points, Michigan Tech was in 13th place with three points, and Northern Michigan stood at 15th place with one point. Dartmouth hosted the event and scored highest with 88 points, followed by Utah with 86 points and Vermont in third place scoring 66 points.

The Wildcats are set to compete next on Saturday, March 8, in the upcoming 20k mass start event scheduled to begin at noon ET.
