NMU men's golf team starts spring season in fourth at Saddlebrook

The NMU men's golf team began its 2025 spring season at the Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel, Florida. After completing the first of three rounds, the Wildcats are in fourth place with a team score of +28. They trail Missouri S&T (+18), Roosevelt (+22), and McKendree (+25) while leading Walsh (+34) and Saint Xavier (+64).

The course is a 6,610-yard par-71, with an average score of 81.49. Most holes played above par except for the par-five 14th hole, which averaged slightly under par.

NMU's performance on different pars included fifth place on the par threes (+13), third on the par fours (+44), and fifth on the par fives (+4). The team recorded 11 birdies, second only to Roosevelt's 13, and made 48 pars.

Tyler Annala led NMU after finishing his round at +6 (77), placing ninth individually and four shots behind the leader. He started on hole three and improved to even par for his last 11 holes, scoring two birdies and seven pars.

Brothers Arthur Ylitalo and Walter Ylitalo both scored +7 (78), tying for 14th place. Walter matched Annala on the par fours at +5 while Arthur excelled on the par fives at two-under with three birdies.

Russel Sprecher also scored three birdies, finishing at +8 (79) for fourth place among NMU players and 19th overall. Levi Pennala finished fifth on the team with a score of +11 (82), placing him 25th overall. Brady Badker ended with +22 (93) in sixth place among teammates and ranked 38th overall. Competing as individuals were Joe Luke (+11, 82) tied for 25th place and Kyle Maki (+15, 86) placed at 32nd.
