The New Beginnings lottery club in Wayne County has won a $1 million prize from the Michigan Lottery's Mega Millions game. The group, which does not frequently participate in the Mega Millions, decided to try their luck and purchased a ticket. According to Anthony Jabbour, the club's representative and spokesperson, when one of their members checked the numbers and found five matches, he was overwhelmed with emotion.
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli congratulated the winners: “Congratulations to the aptly named ‘New Beginnings Lottery Club’ on their life-changing $1 million Mega Millions win that will allow the members to erase their debts. All Lottery players dream of winning big, and this is just one example of that dream coming true for a group of Michiganders.”
The club secured their win by matching five white balls during the November 5 Mega Millions drawing. The winning numbers were 02-24-25-52-58. They purchased their ticket at Wayne Med Mart in Westland.
After visiting Lottery headquarters to claim their prize, the club members plan to use their winnings primarily to pay off bills and save what remains. Jabbour expressed gratitude for achieving financial freedom: “To be debt-free is what we have all dreamed about, so to see that become a reality is truly a dream come true.”
Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday evening. Each play costs $2, with an optional "Megaplier" feature available for an additional $1 per play, which can increase non-jackpot prizes up to five times. Tickets are sold across 45 states as well as Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
