NMU secures gold and bronze at NCAA skiing regionals

The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women's Nordic ski team commenced the 2025 NCAA Central Regional Skiing Championships in Ishpeming, Michigan, with a strong performance in the 7.5k event. The team secured both gold and bronze medals.

Merle Richter achieved a remarkable comeback to win gold, finishing with a time of 24:42.7. She was two seconds ahead of her nearest competitor after starting the final lap in fifth place. Her lap times were recorded at 7:53.0 and 8:00.0 for the first two laps, followed by an impressive final lap of 8:49.6, which was the fastest of the race.

Victoria Dybwad completed the podium for NMU by taking bronze with a time of 24:45.0, recording laps of 7:50.1, 7:56.9, and 8:57.8.

Jordan Parent finished in fifth place with a time of 24:51.3, achieving lap times of 7:52.7, 7:55.0, and 9:03.4.

Pearl Harvey placed eleventh at 25:44.8; Ella Niznik came seventeenth at 26:56.3; Henriette Nilssen did not start.

The NMU team will next compete in the women's and men's mass start events scheduled for tomorrow morning at Al Quaal in Ishpeming, Michigan.
