Victoria Dybwad leads NMU women’s nordic ski team to success at CCSA regionals

The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women's nordic ski team concluded its final Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) race of the season with a standout performance by senior Victoria Dybwad. Competing in Ishpeming, Michigan, Dybwad dominated the 20k race, securing gold with a significant lead.

Dybwad maintained her lead throughout the race, marked every 5 kilometers. She finished with a time of 58:27.4, pulling away from Greta Leitheiser of the College of St. Scholastica after the 15k marker to win by 30 seconds. Leitheiser secured silver at 58:58.9, while Greta Hansen from Michigan Tech took bronze with a time of 59:30.1.

Other notable performances from NMU included Jordan Parent and Merle Richter finishing in seventh and eighth place, respectively, with times of 1:01:07.9 and 1:01:35.5. Pearl Harvey placed sixteenth at 1:06:17.7, while Henriette Nilssen and Ella Niznik did not start.

Looking ahead, NMU will compete in the NCAA Skiing Championships on March 6 and 8 in Hanover, New Hampshire.

In Saturday's earlier event, Merle Richter delivered a comeback victory in the women's 7.5k race for NMU with a time of 24:42.7, narrowly edging out second place by two seconds. Victoria Dybwad also performed well, earning bronze with a time of 24:45.0.

Jordan Parent finished fifth at 24:51.3, followed by Pearl Harvey in eleventh at 25:44.8 and Ella Niznik seventeenth at 26:56.3; Henriette Nilssen did not start this event either.
