The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team is preparing for two important home games this week. The Wildcats, currently holding a 16-6 overall record and 10-4 in conference play, will host Lake Superior State on Thursday, February 13, at 5:30 p.m., followed by Ferris State on Saturday, February 15, at 1 p.m. This final home game of the regular season will also honor NMU's senior players.

Both games are available to watch via the FloSports app or listen to on 100.3 The Point with Casey Ford providing commentary.

Saturday's game against Ferris State coincides with a GLIAC-wide Play4Kay fundraiser aimed at supporting cancer research and care for under-resourced programs. In 2024, the initiative raised over $6,000 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and was recognized as a finalist for the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence. This year, the goal is set at $10,000.

Casey Thousand commented on the significance of this week: "The GLIAC doesn't stop… It's a fun week to celebrate our seniors but also to hopefully get two more home wins."

Northern Michigan has secured a postseason berth and aims to secure home court advantage. Their recent victories against Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State have bolstered their position in the rankings.

Jacy Weisbrod leads NMU in scoring with an average of 13.7 points per game and ranks highly nationally in three-pointers made per game. Sarah Newcomer and Alyssa Nimz follow closely behind in team scoring statistics.

Lake Superior State enters Thursday's match with a challenging season record of 5-17 overall and has lost their last nine games consecutively. Grace Bradford stands out as LSSU’s top performer with averages of 15 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.

Ferris State shares NMU's conference record but boasts strong offensive statistics including ranking second in league scoring with an average of 77.4 points per game. Mia Riley leads FSU with an average of 14.3 points per game.

Historically, Northern Michigan holds favorable records against both upcoming opponents; they have won their last nine encounters against Lake Superior State and recently defeated Ferris State both during regular season play and in last year's GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
