Allie Barlow, McKenzie Gruner, Meghan Meyer, and Jacqueline Smith from the Northern Michigan University volleyball team have been recognized for their academic and athletic achievements by being named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
Allie Barlow is a Marketing major with a 4.0 GPA. She hails from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was included in the All-GLIAC Second Team. Barlow earned GLIAC Setter of the Week honors twice this season. Her contributions include 1,175 assists, with 667 occurring during GLIAC play—ranking second in the conference. Notably, she had four matches where she recorded over 50 assists and achieved a career-high of 62 assists against Michigan Tech on October 30. Additionally, she ranked second in league play with 27 service aces.
McKenzie Gruner is pursuing Construction Management and holds a GPA of 3.65. Gruner participated in all 29 matches this season, starting in 28 of them. She was selected for the UP North Tournament All-Tournament Team after achieving impressive stats including 39 kills and eight blocks over three matches. Her standout performances included career-highs of 15 kills against St. Cloud State on September 14 and Roosevelt on October 11.
Meghan Meyer has maintained a perfect GPA of 4.0 while studying Secondary Education Mathematics. She started all her appearances across the season's matches and was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team as well as earning GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors during week three for her defensive skills which included nine blocks over two victories.
Jacqueline Smith majors in Elementary Special Education with a GPA of 3.95 and received several accolades this season including AVCA Honorable Mention All-American for the second time in her career alongside other regional recognitions like D2CCA and AVCA All-Midwest Region First Teams honors as well as being named to All-GLIAC First Team for five consecutive seasons now becoming NMU's all-time leader on October fifth surpassing previous records reaching top ranks nationally within kills per game category among others hitting remarkable milestones throughout her tenure here at NMU setting new benchmarks individually whilst contributing immensely towards team success collectively too!
