The Northern Michigan University (NMU) hockey team suffered a close 4-3 defeat against the Falcons in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Falcons secured an early lead with two goals within the first minute and a half of the game. Despite NMU's efforts to tie the score at two-all before the end of the first period and again at the start of the third, they could not maintain momentum.
Brody Waters was instrumental for the Falcons, scoring twice late in the game to restore their lead. Although NMU managed a goal with 30 seconds left on the clock, a last-second shot narrowly missed, allowing the Falcons to secure a weekend sweep.
For NMU, Jesse Tucker, Aidyn Hutchinson, and Anthony Cliche each scored goals. Both Hutchinson and Jakub Lewandowski had multi-point games. On the Falcons' side, Waters and Brett Pfoh led with strong performances.
Ryan Ouellette delivered another solid performance for NMU as goalie, making 44 saves with a .917 save percentage. This marked his third game this season with over 40 saves.
Despite having four power-play opportunities due to penalties against their opponents, including a five-minute major called against them, NMU couldn't capitalize on these advantages. They did succeed in killing three out of four penalties.
Looking ahead, NMU will participate in the Great Lakes Invitational tournament where they will face Michigan State at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids on December 29.
