Five Wildcats participate in open water nationals

Five members of the Northern Michigan University (NMU) men's and women's swim team participated in the 2024 CSCAA Collegiate National Open Water Championship in Miami, Florida. The event took place over the weekend at the Oleta River on the campus of Florida International University, drawing nearly 240 participants from NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA institutions for a 5K competition.

Wyatt Dickman represented NMU on the men's side, finishing 11th among Division II athletes and 51st overall with a time of 1:07:57.71. The fastest swimmer was Ben Wainman from Saginaw Valley State, who completed the race in 1:00:41.97.

Zachary Billotte followed Dickman with a time of 1:08:43.31, securing the 14th position among Division II athletes and placing 54th overall. Javier Pena Reyes finished closely behind at 15th in Division II and 58th overall with a time of 1:09:05.82.

On the women's team, Anika Wright achieved fourth place among all Division II competitors and ranked 35th overall with a finish time of 1:05:02.58. Her teammate Caitlin Aarseth finished ninth among Division II athletes and placed 81st overall with her time of 1:09:39.77.

The College Swim & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) will release a full report later today on their website at CSCAA.org.
