Members of the Northern Michigan University (NMU) men's and women's swim and dive teams are heading to Miami, Florida, for the CSCAA College National Open Water Championships. The event, hosted by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), will be held at Florida International University in Biscayne Bay on Sunday, December 15.

The championship will feature nearly 240 participants from various institutions across NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA. The competition is set to begin with the men's 5K race at 8 a.m., followed by the women's 5K race at 10 a.m.

Five NMU athletes are making the trip with head coach Heidi Voigt: Anika Wright and Caitlin Aarseth from the women's team, along with Javier Pena Reyes, Zachary Billotte, and Wyatt Dickman from the men's team. They are scheduled for a practice session on Saturday afternoon before competing in Sunday's races.

The Wildcats made a similar trip last year; however, the event was canceled due to weather conditions. Updates and results will be available on the NMU Athletics website, NMU swim and dive social channels, and CSCAA.org.

Founded in 1922, "the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) is dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level." It aims to "protect, promote and expand competitive intercollegiate swimming and diving programs," among other goals.
